Summer Camp Counselor

Summer Camp Counselors will assist the Summer Camp Head Counselor Intern in leading different camp age groups for the summer (7 weeks). Each camp is split into different age groups and each week is a different theme. Summer Camp Counselors work directly with the Head Camp Counselor Intern to assure the camps run smoothly and the children have a fun and safe hands-on learning experience.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Assistant Director
  • Executing camp programs and activities as the main ‘camp’ teacher in an age group
  • Supervising children
  • Managing camper behaviors
  • Responsible for the safety and happiness of the children in attendance
  • Communicating with Head Camp Counselor and Assistant Director
  • Supervising volunteers
  • Maintenance of camp resources, materials, and rooms

Requirements:

  • In process of studying for an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree (preferably in education or in a child related field).
  • Experience working with large groups of children.
  • CPR Certified preferred
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
  • Knowledge of child development stages.
  • Ability to multi-task in a quickly moving environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization.
  • Experience in execution of written lesson plans
  • Adaptability in changes to planning.
  • Ability to think and plan ahead.
  • Passion and love for children and the mission of CMBV.

Time Commitment:

  • 7 Week commitment

8 hour tentative shift (8 am – 5 pm) as Summer Camp Counselor Intern, plus 1 hour outside the camp room maintaining the materials every day. Full-time internship. $8.25/hour

 

 

Educational Enrichment Internship

Job Responsibilities:

  • Generate new programs for school groups with relationship to TEKS standards
  • Schedule and plan programs for School Groups
  • Produce exhibit guides with correlating TEKS for each exhibit
  • Create and coordinate monthly programs and calendar
  • Work with Marketing Manager to create monthly program calendar to send to publication
  • Organize and update information in The Children’s Museum database
  • Schedule special program guests to visit the museum
  • Send thank you notes and reminder emails to various programming special guests
  • Organize program materials
  • Other Duties as assigned

Requirements

  • In process of completing Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in education, Child Development or in a child related field).
  • Flexibility in planning.
  • Ability to think and plan ahead.
  • Knowledge of child development stages.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization.
  • Experience in written planning.
  • Passion and love for children and the mission of CMBV.

 

Time Commitment

 

  • Unpaid internship
  • Must be able to commit 12-18 weeks
  • Schedule is flexible and will work with class schedules
  • Part-time: 15-35 hours/per week

 

 

Camp Coordinator Intern

The Camp Coordinator Intern will work with the Assistant Director to pre-plan and operate seasonal camps. The success of our camps depends on excellent pre-planning that allows for flexibility, parent communication, volunteer communication, community involvement, child development, and hands-on, interactive learning.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Aid in the supervision of camps
  • Design educational activities, games, crafts, songs that coordinate with camp themes and support The Children’s Museums mission
  • Organize and keep current a list of registered campers
  • Work with Director of Education to seek out special guests to come to each camp or to host an entire week of camp
  • Create a schedule for each camp week
  • Seek out local sponsors
  • Aid in the organization and coordination of camp volunteers, create volunteer schedules, handbooks, and aid in training
  • Assist and create lessons/curriculum for each camp week
  • Work with Marketing Manager to create various advertisements for camp registration
  • Help create and maintain budgeting for upcoming camps
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • In process of completing Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Sciences, Child Development, Education or related field).
  • Must be available during camps.
  • Experience working in a camp environment.
  • Flexibility in planning.
  • Ability to think and plan ahead.
  • Knowledge of child development stages.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organization.
  • Experience in written planning.
  • Passion and love for children and the mission of CMBV.
